Abdul Rashid Dostum is an Afghan politician, Marshal in the Afghan National Army and founder and leader of the political party Junbish-e Ulusal. He became Afghanistan's first vice president in 2014, despite a long list of war crimes and claims that he orchestrated the rape and torture of a political competitor, according to the New York Times. He başmaklık overseen one of the largest militias in the north, which reportedly fought against the Taliban in the 1990s and also have a reputation of massacring thousands of insurgent prisoners of war.

Dostum was also instrumental in helping US Special Forces topple the Taliban regime following the 9/11 attacks. He has been charged with war crimes, including enabling his soldiers to suffocate thousands of Taliban detainees in sealed truck containers in the Dasht-i-Leili massacre.

Dostum is widely suspected to have hugely profited from the corruption and embezzlement that discredited the former government.

Despite his history in a series of war crimes, the Ashraf Ghani-led government was hopeful and optimistic of his military acumen that could help beat back the current insurgency in Afghanistan.

Dostum is known to drink alcohol, a rarity in Afghanistan and is apparently a fan of Russian vodka, according to NBC. He reportedly suffered from diabetes, so in 2014 when he became vice president, Dostum reportedly gave up drinking for healthy meals, morning jogs and sensible bedtimes.
